Website Usage Alert System (“the Extension”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our Chrome browser extension.

Information We Collect

Data Stored Locally

The Extension stores the following information locally on your device only:

  • Website Usage Data: Time spent on each website domain (only when actively viewing)
  • User Configuration: Your custom time limit rules and alert settings
  • Daily Statistics: Historical usage data for tracking purposes
  • Language Preferences: Your selected display language

Important: All data is stored using Chrome’s local storage API (chrome.storage.local) and never leaves your device.

Data We DO NOT Collect

We do NOT collect, store, or transmit:

  • Personal information (name, email, phone number, etc.)
  • Browsing history or URLs visited
  • Passwords or login credentials
  • Payment information
  • IP addresses
  • Device identifiers
  • Analytics or tracking data

How We Use Information

The locally stored data is used exclusively to:

  1. Track active viewing time per website domain
  2. Display usage statistics in the extension popup and options page
  3. Trigger alerts and notifications when time limits are reached
  4. Maintain daily usage history for user reference
  5. Remember user preferences and custom rules

Data Storage and Security

  • All data is stored locally on your computer using Chrome’s secure storage API
  • Data is not synchronized across devices through Chrome Sync
  • Data is not backed up to any external servers
  • You can clear all stored data at any time through Chrome’s extension settings

Remote Configuration (Optional)

The Extension can optionally fetch time limit rules from:

  • URL: https://kidscando.vn/alert-site-config.txt
  • Purpose: Provide preset recommended time limits for popular websites
  • Data Transmitted: None. The Extension only downloads configuration rules.
  • Data Received: Text file containing domain names and time limits (no personal data)
  • Frequency: Once per hour maximum

This feature can be disabled, and the Extension works fully offline if preferred.

Permissions Explained

The Extension requires the following Chrome permissions:

tabs

  • Purpose: Detect which tab is currently active
  • Data Access: Current tab URL and domain only
  • Usage: Track time spent per website

storage

  • Purpose: Save your settings and usage data locally
  • Data Access: Local storage only (no cloud sync)
  • Usage: Store time tracking data on your device

alarms

  • Purpose: Schedule daily reset at midnight
  • Data Access: None
  • Usage: Reset usage timers automatically

idle

  • Purpose: Detect when you’re away from your computer
  • Data Access: Idle state only (not activity details)
  • Usage: Pause time tracking when you’re inactive

scripting

  • Purpose: Display alerts and lock screens on websites
  • Data Access: None
  • Usage: Inject notification overlays when time limits are reached

host_permissions (<all_urls>)

  • Purpose: Monitor time across all websites
  • Data Access: Domain names only (not full URLs or content)
  • Usage: Track time spent on any website you configure

Your Rights and Control

You have complete control over your data:

View Your Data

  • Open the Extension options page to see all stored usage data
  • View current settings and configured time limits

Delete Your Data

  1. Clear all data: Remove the Extension from Chrome
  2. Clear specific data: Reset statistics in the Extension options
  3. Clear browser data: Use Chrome Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data

Export Your Data

  • Currently, there is no automatic export feature
  • Contact us if you need assistance accessing your data

Disable Features

  • Disable remote configuration fetching
  • Delete individual time limit rules
  • Disable alerts or lock features

Children’s Privacy

The Extension is designed to be safe for users of all ages, including children:

  • No personal information is collected
  • No account registration required
  • No communication features
  • No external data transmission (except optional config fetch)
  • Educational focus on healthy digital habits

Parents can monitor and configure the Extension for their children’s use.

Third-Party Services

The Extension does NOT use:

  • Analytics services (Google Analytics, etc.)
  • Advertising networks
  • Social media integrations
  • Third-party tracking scripts
  • External APIs (except optional config fetch from kidscando.vn)

  • Configuration: Retained until you change or delete it
  • No server-side data: We do not retain any data on our servers
